Runaway moon theatre

Hi I was aked to pass this on to homeschooling families.
This group puts on magical productions and if you have the chance, go to a performance. Check out their website and look at some of the photos from previous productions.

This is an opportunity to participate in a community theatre
performance event. There is approx. a 3 week lead up, but this doesn't
mean that you have to participate every day. The organisiers are aware
that people don't have that kind of time/ work/ other commitments etc,
so they schedule rehearsals or whatever you participate in ( see list
below) for evenings and weekends.
They need: puppeteers, musicians ( no experience neccessary - it's
mostly percussive and very user friendly)stilt walkers,( I think hana
wants to do stilt walking this year) story tellers, *water* people,
people to sew, set up, make props.

They will be exploring water, and its role in our lives without being
preachy or heavy handed in any way.

Cathy Stubington is the Artistic Director, and lives on Curly Willow
Farm ( organic produce) in Grindrod,

Varrick Grimes is the Theatre Director, he is fabulous, very
experienced and VERY VERY fun! He lives in vancouver, but has worked
all over the world as a community theatre producer.

Murray macDonald is the music director, he is lovely to work with, and
also very experienced in this type of theatre process.

Jimmy Ouma is direct from Kenya, he is a community organiser and
resource person in Akonjo Village, Kenya. He is here just for this
project. There is a lovely communication /cross cultural exchange
between Runaway Moon Theatre and Akonjo Village.

There is no cost, other than the gas to get there for your specific
rehearsal times.
ALL REHEARSALS WILL BE AT ENDERBY DRILL HALL. ( south end of Enderby
on the highway on the left hand side.)

If you don't want to be part of the production, the show will run July
24 and 25 at Kingfisher Interpretive Centre, 7.30pm, it will be
approximately 1 hour long. don't miss it!

If you need any more information you can phone Michelle Carriere at
250 838 0923

To find out more and to meet Cathgy, Varrick, Murray and Jimmy Ouma
come along to the Enderby Drill Hall 7pm monday 5 July.

I strongly urge you to participate, it's fun and free! and you will
learn lots in a very friendly environment.

Just to let you know, if you are interested, or if your children are interested, there will be an info session about the children's meditation course, with a short film, and the teachers will be there to talk, on June 26th, at Vertigo (Saturday) at 1pm. It will be probably fairly short, but everyone, young and old, is welcome. Also, people can register for the oneday workshop here as well.
Best,

One-day Meditation workshop

Hi Everyone
Heidi Thompson asked that I post this.

Cool, Calm and Collected

Workshop teaches young people how to focus

On Monday, July 5th, the B.C. Vipassana Foundation is offering an Anapana workshop aimed to help young people develop their attention skills and gain understanding about how their thoughts and actions are interconnected. Although the ancient technique of Anapana has been used to help young and old for centuries, it has become increasingly popular in North America over the past few years. Courses have been conducted worldwide – from Canada to England, India, France, Japan, USA and Australia. This will be the first official course offered in the Okanagan.

Translated, Anapana, means “observing the breath with awareness”. This simple, yet effective technique is taught to children 8 and 12 years old and to teens from 13 - 17 years. By simply feeling the touch of the breath as one breathes in and out, the mind becomes focussed, attentive and calm.

Very quickly, students gain control over their wandering thoughts, and experience a sense of mastery as they can, at will, regain their focus. Once the mind is balanced, students gain control over their actions, which allows them to make positive choices, rather than acting compulsively out of agitation or habit.

In many cultures, Anapana is such an important aspect of education, it is taught in schools, usually at the beginning of the day. When practised daily, students have seen improvements not only in their academic abilities, but have felt increased empowerment, confidence and a sense of social responsibility.

Vernon’s one-day program will be taught by qualified instructors. Instruction will be interspersed with supporting activities from stories and discussions to art, crafts and games. A vegetarian lunch and snack will be provided.

Here are some young people’s comments: “I did this course last year and it helped me a lot in my studies.” “I learnt how to focus and keep my mind calm.” “Anapana helps me stay cool.”

For more information about Anapana courses for children visit: www.surabhi.dhamma.org or call: 250 542 1551(Vernon) or 250 469 7180 (Kelowna)
There is no charge for this workshop, to be held at the Coldstream Women's Institute Hall, 9909 Kal Lake Road, Tuesday, July 5th from 9am to 4.30p.m. All courses are funded by donations from students who have completed a course.
Pre-register at www.surabhi.dhamma.org where there is also information about a course for 13 -15 year old teens August 17th - 18th.

Waterslide 50% Off passes till June 4th

Hi everyone, I thought I had posted this earlier but I must have forgotten.

Some of you may know that every year Atlantis Waterslides offers 50% off of their hourly passes. They offer 50, 100 and 200 hour passes. The 50 hour pass is normally $160, so it is now $80 until June 4th. For our family of 5 this is the same price we would pay for admission for one day! Obviously well worth it. For us we also like it because we feel like we can just go for a couple of hours some days and not worry about it. You can also use this for family and friends when they are visiting.

You do need to pick them up at the Waterslide office though and they are currently open from 10am-4pm. As I mentioned above this sale is only on until June 4th.
